Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, born on February 4, 1948, in Sapahi, Dhanusha, Nepal, is a distinguished physician-turned-politician who became Nepal’s first President after the country declared itself a republic in 2008. Elected on July 21, 2008, and serving until October 29, 2015, he played a pivotal role during Nepal’s transition from monarchy to democracy. A committed member of the Nepali Congress, Yadav previously served as Minister of Health (1999-2001) and General Secretary of the party, contributing significantly to public health and political reform. Hailing from the Madhesi community, he studied medicine in Kolkata and Chandigarh, later practicing as a surgeon in Janakpur. His presidency symbolized unity and progress, earning him widespread respect. Yadav’s dedication to democracy and social welfare, along with his humble beginnings, made him a beloved figure in Nepal’s history.
